Virginia - 2022

Saturday, Jun 11th:

I got a call from John that Mary had some serious problems and was in critical condition in the hospital, so I started making plans to Drop Tina off at the kennel and make reservations. I couldn't get a southwest flight for Friday, so I booked for Saturday early morning flight. I missed my turn for the airport and the normal secondary turn was closed for the bridge construction. I got there on time, but they were already loading and marked my checked luggage as late but said it should make it on since Corpus is such a small airport.

John met me at the airport from the opposite direction I was expecting. Mary passed away on Friday which was before I could get there, so I spent the next couple of days helping John move stuff to storage and advising Jeffrey on decisions he needed to make.

Sunday, Jun 12th:

So, I was making plans to hike to the Church of the Good Shepheard since John said they hadn't been going in person since the pandemic was declared. It is about 2 miles from the hotel, so I wasn't concerned on the distance but wasn't too sure the route was safe for walking. Later John decided to give me a ride there, which was good because I was a little leery about several sections along the route. There were a lot of people attending the Mass, probably in advance of the summer vacation.

Monday, Jun 13th:

Today is to be a moving day of material from John's house to storage, but he was going to make up a load first and pick me up on the way to the storage unit. So, I took a little walk in the hiking path across from the hotel: Windsor Castle Park.

Jun 14 to 16th:

The next few days we alternated between moving material to storage, doing minor repairs to John's house, and visiting Jeffrey. I didn't take many pictures of those activities. I did take some pictures of the outside furniture at Smithfield Station. I also took a picture of a desert they served at the breakfast, because I might want to copy the folding of the paper around the cupcake.

Here are a few more pictures from my bedroom window.

Jun 17 to 20th:

So, on Thursday I moved to Hampton Inn, where Jimmy and Sue had reservations and eventually Chris and Gary stayed there. Over the next couple of days, we visited Jeffrey and advised on his plans while he set up the funeral services and continued to help John get his house ready for showing. Jim Budday and I looked at the problem with Jeffrey's deck and developed a plan to stabilize it. Jim did the work of implementing the plan we came up with.

Jun 18th:

We helped to get an obituary developed and Jeffrey had some of Mary's friends expand it into a remembrance history. So click to download the:

Jun 19th:

Chris and Gary took me to the Good Shepheard Church for Sunday Mass. We grilled some burgers and dogs and a birthday cake for Mary. Chris and Gary and her kids went to Jeffrey's where they remembered Mary with a toast. The next day Chris and Gary took me and James to the airport for our flights back.
